PADIHAM made hard work of beating bottom club Castleton Gabriels but collected all three points thanks to an 89th minute goal by Ian Pilkington following a John Harrison corner.
It was never a game for the purists with the first half scrappy and the second one full of missed chances by Padiham.
Lee Chambers headed a Dean Stowe cross wide of the Castleton upright, John Harrison had a shot kicked off the home side's goal line, Lee Chambers had another effort knocked off the line onto the post and away for a corner and then with time running out, John Harrison fired over from 12 yards out.
It looked ominously like another goalless night for the Storks until Ian Pilkington broke the deadlock with his last-minute headed goal that hopefully will kickstart Padiham's season.
RESULT: CASTLETON GABRIELS...0 PADIHAM...1
