DARWEN lost their third NWCL Division Two game on the bounce to a last-gasp goal from Colne's Gary Dalton.
But manager Steve Wilkes was happy with his side's performance.
"I told them before the game that I wouldn't mind if we got beat 10-0 as long as they put in 110 per cent effort and they did that last night."
Darwen, who were beaten 5-1 by Bacup on Saturday, were down to 10 men as early as the 20th minute when Lee Webb was sent off for violent conduct after appearing to throw the ball at Colne manager John Lister's head.
Webb had earlier hit the crossbar and Mark Heys had a chance soon after, finding himself one-on-one with the keeper, but his shot from the edge of the box scraped the crossbar.
Colne had plenty of possession and had the ball in the back of the net on the stroke of half-time through George Craddock but the effort was ruled out for offside.
Darwen got a penalty just minutes before time after Heys was brought down in the box by Mark Berry.
Heys stepped up to take it in the absence of the injured Andy Walsh but produced a great save from Colne keeper Ross Baxter.
In the dying seconds Dalton secured the points for the visitors.
