Langworthy Reds 16 Pilkington Recs U18s 26 PILKS got their season under way with a well deserved victory against a physical Langworthy side. Recs opened the scoring within the opening five minutes with an excellent try from Ste Rawsthorne from acting half. Mike Woodhead added the goal. Later Barry Pope supported well and was rewarded with a fine try to the corner, with Woodhead again adding a goal.
The first half ended with Langworthy and Pilks scoring another 2 points each from penalties to show Pilks leading 14 - 2 at the interval. Langworthy now playing with the slope in their favour scored an early try and goal, but Pilks kept to the task and were rewarded with further tries from James Lacey and Mike Woodhead the latter adding 2 more goals.
Pilks eased off the gas somewhat and Langworthy enjoyed a purple patch grabbing 2 more tries.
However at the final whistle it was Pilks who deservedly took the points. Man of the match was strong running forward John Moran, followed by Woodhead and Lacey. Other good efforts came from Liam Bostock, Ted Rawsthorne, Mark Henry and John Ford.
Pilks U16s 10 Oldham St Annes 8 An outstanding result for the new look Pilks team. Tries coming from Ashley Stewart who also took the Euro Register man of the match, Marc Davies and conversion by Andy Parr. Others in form were I Langley, A Parr, G Philbin and C Wilson for a match winning tackle. We pass on our wishes to Gareth Davies who broke his arm in two places.
Pilks Recs U15s 12 Ashton Bears 4 This was a close game between two evenly matched sides. Pilks took the lead with a try by Andy Smith and a touchline conversion by Rhys Griffiths. Pilks then pressed the self destruct button allowing Ashton back into the game. In the second half Ashton maintained the pressure but a fine solo effort by Daz Forshaw saw Pilks come away with the points.
St Helens Motor Auctions man of the match was Daz Forshaw. Pilks A U12s 26 Mayfield Mustangs 0 A good defensive display from Pilks which saw them win the game, but they also played some good attacking rugby.
Terry Riley scored a brace of tries, his first being a fine solo effort. Matty Owen, Scott Pennington and Jamie Atkinson were the other try scorers. Sean Ashall converted twice but also hit the post twice.
Corus Building Systems awards went to performer of the week Luke Riley and Johney Phillips, coaches award Ste Keane and Mike Cottom. Top tackler Scott Pennington and Co-op late Shop man of the match Jamie Atkinson and Terry Riley.
Pilks Recs U11s 38 New Springs Lions 4 Superb attacking play linked with rock solid defence, saw Pilk's overcome a much improved New Springs side. Pilk's scorers were Man of the Match Mark Hamon (4 tries and goal), Richard Thomas (try and goal), Adam Moss (try and goal), Matthew Twist (try), with Owain Griffiths and Ryan Hilliard adding a goal each. Top Tackler was Dean Jones and Coaches Award winner Chris Walker.
Pilks U10s 46 Langworthy Reds 16 Pilks triumphed over an under strength Salford outfit running in 11 tries. Chris Lee and Steven Ellison led the way with two each. Mike Wright, Sam Smith, Josh Appleton, David Knapper, Liam Hill, Darren Magson and Ben Hughes were the other scorers.
All at Pilks wish Dane Hodgkinson a speedy recovery after suffering a serious hand injury.
Leigh Miners R U7s 24 Pilks 54 In a fantastic team performance against a noted well drilled Leigh side, tries from Liam Droughton, Shaun Marsh, Jonathon Key, Matthew Appleton, Jake Devine 2 and man of the match Alex Bacon 3 gave the away team a well earned victory.
