JOHN Eddleston (Letters, September 20) was spot on. But we all know that the blame for the recent riots in Burnley and elsewhere will be laid at the doors not only of the BNP but anyone who dares to support even the tiniest fraction of indigenous nationalism.

It is seldom, if ever, mentioned that the mass immigration which has transformed this country was implemented by politicians who had no mandate for such social engineering.

Had a sensible, controlled, immigration policy been enacted, then integration into British society and harmony between the disparate races could have been achieved.

However, the status quo is now with us and we must make the best of it. But there is a significant factor adversely affecting the situation and it is this: The majority of Labour politicians at local and national level have for many years prostituted themselves in pursuit of the ethnic minority vote.

Rightly or wrongly, there is a strong perception among working class people, many of them committed Labour voters, that ethnic minority communities are favoured over them in many areas and this has resulted in an adverse reaction to Labour politicians, possibly losing them votes, and also causing resentment towards the ethnic minorities, who are not engaged in the hypocritical manoeuvrings of politicians.

When eventually blame for the riots is being apportioned Labour, liberal left-wing politicians, must be seen to be fair to everyone.

Justice in this country needs to be seen and is far more important to the general public, whatever their race or creed than being usurped for the self-gratification of politicans. And if this means some of them losing votes, so be it.
