ST Joseph's must be kicking themselves for not making all their early good work count.

The Saints dominated the opening 15 minutes but failed to score the goals their final build up play deserved.

The impressive Callum Grimshaw did find the net but Wolves were always going to come good and, as it turned out, that one goal cushion wasn't to be enough for Saints. Nick McKenna worked himself two good shooting opportunities but first Matthew Hanson and then Shaun Hartley produced two great covering tackles.

Sam Lambert then found himself clear on goal but his shot was well saved by Liam Bicknell.

Wolves finally got in to the game and should have scored but stand-in keeper Jacob Dowling and his defenders held firm.

Dowling did well to deny Hartley and the Saints defenders then combined to keep out shots from Sam Sieckowski before Grimshaw popped up on his own goal line to clear Oliver Brown's well struck shot. Grimshaw was all over the park because barely a minute later he showed great strength to break free and fire past Bicknell.

Saints needed to hold on to their lead but it didn't last long. Dowling did well to save from Brown but moments later Sieckowski fired through a crowd of players to score.

Wolves were now in the ascendency and Connor Parfitt had two chances to give them a half-time lead.

But their second goal did arrive just after the break when Simon Holden beat Dowling at his near post.

Holden then brought a flying save out of Dowling as Wolves began to get a firm grip on the game.

The third goal they threatened soon arrived and Dowling was given little chance as Parfitt brilliantly lobbed the keeper from outside the area.

But there was better to come from Wolves. Parfitt released Holden down the right and his pace took him beyond his marker then cooly stepped around Dowling to score.

Wolves nearly scored again but Shaun Hartley was denied by the post before Saints mounted a late fightback with Nick McKenna forcing a save out of Bicknell before the McKenna headed Sam Lambert's free kick just wide.

But it turned out to be too little too late for the Saints.
