A COLLECTION and awareness day will be held in Burnley on Saturday to help raise money for events and running costs of local branch of the British Polio Fellowship Group.

From 10am to 4pm members of the North East Lancashire branch will be in the town centre handing out balloons, sweets and lollipops.

The World Health Authority is trying to eradicate polio within the next few years, but this can only be done if parents continue to have their children vaccinated. The aim is to make parents aware of how important it is to vaccinate their children.

Parents will also have the chance to talk to members of the group who have either had polio or are the partner or family of a person who has contracted polio.

The Early Learning Centre shop is being used to blow balloons up for the children and many other shops in Burnley have supported the charity by donating sweets and balloons to give the children and also provided items towards a Christmas raffle.
