Roose 14 Haydock 26

ALL the Haydock team must take credit for this victory in Cumbria, despite missing five regulars the Haydock team played some brilliant rugby. The Haydock forwards took the game to the big Roose pack and players like Carroll, Connaire, Reynolds, Cahalin, Bloor and Kelsey led by example.

Haydock started the brighter with Carroll and Connaire always taking the ball and making ground. Marsh was causing trouble in the Roose defence with some strong runs, but against the run of play it was Roose who took the lead with a try and conversion to lead 6-0 after 10 minutes.

Roose had a bit of the ball but the Haydock defence looked solid. Haydock hit back with some good runs from defence by Bloor, Marsh and Reynolds and were on the Roose line when Reynolds took the ball to Carroll who crashed over from 10 yards to score a good try.

Marsh converted to make it 6-6. Abbot and Speed both went close to scoring but just failed. Marsh kicked Haydock ahead with a penalty goal to make it 8-6 to Haydock after 25 minutes.

Haydock seemed to be in control but once again Roose struck with a kick through which bounced perfectly to regather and score an unconverted try to give a half time score of 10-8 to Roose.

Haydock still had a lot to do and went about it the right way and controlled the second half. Bloor and Kelsey making darting runs and full back Wade making good runs.

Substitute Haughey was creating problems for Roose and 10 minutes into the second half after a good build up the ball went to Bloor who went 30 yards beating several players to score a good try. Marsh converted to make it 14-10 to Haydock.

Haydock never looked back and with 10 minutes to go Haydock bringing the ball up field came across to the wing, Speed passed the ball inside to Pearson P who did the rest from 20 yards out and beat several would be tacklers to score near the post.

Marsh converted to make it 20-10 to Haydock with four minutes to go. Haydock wrapped it up when Haughey made a darting run to the line and passed the ball inside to supporting player Wade who went over to score a good try, Marsh converted to make it 26-10. In injury time Roose got a try back to make the final score 26-14 to Haydock.

In a great team effort all players deserve a mention but special mention to Marsh, Haughey, Carroll, Reynolds and Appleton.
