A WOMAN was left shaken when a stone was hurled at a car while she was waiting at traffic lights outside a school.

And Marie Smith claims it was one of the pupils who did the damage.

The concerned school, Darwen Vale, in Blackburn Road, Darwen, is now investigating the claims.

Marie was stopped at the lights outside the school yesterday lunchtime on her way to dropping off her 20-month-old daughter Abigail at a toddler group.

The 29-year-old said she heard a huge bang on her door and caught the eye of a pupil she believes is the culprit staring straight back at her.

She said the stone dented the driver's side door and scratched paint work.

Marie, of Blackburn, said: "My window was down all the way and if it was just a couple of inches higher it would have hit me in the face."

Lynn Dunning, headteacher at Darwen Vale, said: "We are working with the police to establish what happened during this alleged incident. If a pupil from Darwen Vale School has thrown something at this car we will carry out a full investigation."
