A LEIGH tip, branded an 'eyesore,' is to have a £1m make-over.
Ramsdale's Tip at Pennington Flash will be landscaped and have new footpaths as well as fencing, grassing and tree planting.
Under the plans 400,000 tonnes of shale will be removed and used for capping and restoration at the former landfill tip at Amberswood in Hindley.
Cllr Brian Strett, cabinet member for the environment said: "This is excellent news - we are solving two problems at once here by using the waste material from Ramsdale's Tip to help restore the site at Amberswood.
"It is an imaginative way of getting rid of two of our remaining eyesores in an environmentally friendly way." Work is set to start before next April and should be complete by 2003.
