WORLD champion kick boxer, Danny Harrison has defended his title for the third time - and all in the name of his father.

Danny, who has been boxing since he was six, fought off competitors from 75 countries at the three-day WKA World Championships in Vienna.

This is the third time the 26-year-old has secured the title, he won in 1995 and 1996, then had time off to go to university, then last year lost to Canadian, Preston Myers - who he met in the final this year for a long awaited rematch.

Danny of Stanley Drive, Leigh fights in the under 70 kilos division and has competed in his sport all over the world.

This win was particularly important to him as it fell at the end of August - just before his dad, Danny Snr's birthday.

Danny said: "This was my major goal and I'm overwhelmed to have achieved it. I really wanted to win it for my father. He was my original inspiration and has been behind me every step of the way. He was chuffed to bits."

Kick boxing is taking a back seat for a while now, so Danny can concentrate on his career as a web developer and interactive architect.
