CLAYTON'S Senior Men won the bronze medal at the North West Counties Road Relays on Saturday.
In the six stage event held at Stanley Park in Blackpool, Andy Black, Mark Brown and Andy Stubbs took them to halfway in eighth spot, before Mark Aspinall, pictured, and Garry Wilkinson raised them into third. Simon Thompson, on the last stage, recorded their fastest time to consolidate the position. Laura's pacey CHORLEY AC's Laura Livesey set fastest time of the day in the NW Counties Relays. Her run for the under 15 girl's team set them up for an eventual fifth place.
Pendle AC, represented in most of the junior classes, also returned some strong individual performances. Under 17 Laura Finucane and under 13 Ashley Ellison were both fourth fastest in their events, while in the under 17 men's race the team just missed a medal after Mark Bridge and Jerome Slater were both among the top ten performers. Pendle joy PENDLE Forest Orienteers have won the Nottingham Orienteering Club Trophy for small clubs in the Peter Palmer Junior Relays. Held at Sutton Park in Birmingham, it is a nationally contested relay event. Starting at 5:30am, the early stages are run in the dark which makes it a tough test for juniors. The winning team included 16-year-olds Nick Hallsworth, Ben Smith, Carla Harris and Chris Mitchell, and 18-year-old Ken Masser. A second PFO team finished fourth. The majority of the squad attend Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School which is affiliated to the club. Medal winners FIVE athletes from Park High School AC won 11 medals at the Blackley Open Medal Meeting. Charlotte Bickerstaffe set three PB's in the under15's 800m, 200m and long jump as she took a silver and two bronze medals, then she combined with Rachel Ingham, Jane Halliday and Louise Dickinson to win the 4x100m relay. Sprint ace Louise won three individual events, the 100m, 200m and long jump, while under 13 Carla Burns was second in the 800m. Pat's bonanza TODMORDEN'S Pat Collier was the winning lady in Sunday's Bonanza Fell Race at the Horseshoe Pass in North Wales. The over 55 veteran finished 17th overall in the 3.5 miler which includes 900' of ascent. Alan Heaton of Clayton Harriers, in 18th place, was the winning M70. Pendle gold PENDLE'S Eleanor Markendale won a gold medal in the under 13 long jump as the Blackpool Illuminations Medal Meeting brought the track and field season to a close. Nikala Smith, who missed most of the season with injury, finished strongly with a PB 27.3 in the under 15's 200m to earn a silver. She also won a bronze in the 100m, as under 13 Stephanie Brown won bronze in the long jump. Hyndburn's Lee Passco won the senior 1500m, while at Wakefield, Sam Crabtree of Pendle won gold in the under 13 long jump.
