I PICKED up some fantastic 1930s magazines at a car boot.

A February 1937 advert declared: "How the kiddies love jam roly poly, and remember for success make it with Borwick's Baking Powder, the best in the world.

Thanks to Borwick's you can make the most delicious boiled puddings, knowing for certain they will turn out delicious."

My late grandma must have used it 20 years on when she boiled up jam roly poly treats in old rags. After a first taste I told her it was really good, and I got it every day until I was sick of it.

She died in 1963, but I haven't tasted a sweet as good since.
