Blackbrook 10 Bold Miners 16 BROOK suffered their first home defeat at the hands of local rivals Bold who thoroughly deserved the victory.
The home side gave away too many penalties and lost far too much possession and they must rectify these faults if they are looking to gain promotion this season.
Brook could not have got off to a better start when Dave Ryan scored in the opening seconds of the game. The loose forward stole the ball in a one on one tackle to go over in the corner. Bold's second row man Mark Saunders levelled the scores with two penalties in the opening 10 minutes as Brook failed to capitalise on their start.
Former Brook players Wes Singleton and Paul Rigby were making inroads into Brook's defence and a third Saunders penalty gave Bold the lead for the first time after 25 minutes.
Following a break from centre Graeme Cox it was Bold who conceded a penalty to enable Andy Shaw to level the scored again on the half hour.
The visitors however went in front again with seven minutes of the half remaining when good play produced a try in the corner for wingman Chris Burgess. Ten minutes into the second half the scores were levelled for the third time when following another Cox break, Brook's wingman Paul Fass had the overlap to score in the corner.
Unfortunately Shaw's attempted conversion hit a post. Good tackling from both sides prevented any scoring for the next 15 minutes and as the game went on the next score became vital.
With only just over 10 minutes remaining, Brook were camped out on their try line following a series of handling errors and it was Bold loose forward Wes Singleton who found a gap to score what turned out to be the match winning try, Saunders again added the conversion.
Jason Mitchell was selected as the Andrew Douglas Car Sales man of the match closely followed by Dave Ryan and Graeme Cox. Brook travel to Rylands this week however the second team have another local derby with a home game against Haydock B. The match at Boardmans Lane kicks off at 2.30pm.
