IT'S hats off to Blackpool and The Fylde College tourism, leisure and hospitality students tonight (Thursday Sep 27) as they celebrate an awards ceremony at the Bispham Campus.
This is the first Further Education Student of The Year Achievement Awards held by the tourism, leisure and hospitality school and it is hoped it will become an annual event.
Fifteen awards will be presented on the evening in recognition of those students who have done exceptionally well throughout their time at college.
Prizes have been donated by local industries including a £50 JJB Sports voucher, a free Ambassador membership worth £299 and an Airtours holiday voucher worth £250. Many companies have also donated trophies and shields that will be presented on the evening.
Maggie Dollin-Evans, head of the school of tourism, leisure and hospitality said: "I think it is important to recognise the exceptional achievements of our students who will be working in the service orientated industry.
"We already recognise the achievements of our degree and HND students with an awards ceremony, but it is equally important to mark the progress of our younger students, many of whom go straight into work rather than higher education."
