WATER WATER EVERY WHERE: It took workmen ten hours to locate a burst water main which affected 80 homes. The leak was discovered in an eight-inch main at the junction of Wellington Road and Manchester Road. The fractured main was difficult to locate because of gas pipes and electricity cables. North West Water bosses provided a water cart to serve residents until normal service was resumed.
FIREBUGS: Two boys appeared at Bury juvenile court accused of setting fire to a classroom at Radcliffe Primary School and stealing property. They were remanded in the care of the local authority for three weeks pending reports. The boys, aged 11 and 12, denied damaging property, estimated at £2,000, and stealing goods valued at £3.10. SORE IAN'S EYES ONLY: A 12-year-old Bury schoolboy who wrote to his local MP complaining about the amount of chlorine in the Castle Leisure Centre's swimming pool, was given a tour of inspection of the facility.
Ian Bridge of Freckleton Drive, Bury, said he visited the pool often but always came away with sore eyes. Ian was invited to see the plant room for himself and see how the plant machines mixed the chlorine with water to prevent the pool from becoming dirty and unhygienic.
CORONATION MEMORIES: In Coronation Street fans will remember in 1976 parents confronted teacher Ken Barlow in a bid to stop ex-convict Eddie Yates from spending so much time with their children. Ken told one mum that Eddie was doing a good job, helping the children to build an adventure playground, and was a good influence on the kids!
