COULD any of your readers hazard a guess as to what crime has been committed by a child to warrant the following punishment?

1. The child will be forced to leave his familiar surroundings.

2. The child will be expected to be placed in an alien environment.

3. The child will be used to combat a problem that is not of his making.

4. At no time will any account be taken of the child's feelings.

5. The child will not be expected to benefit in any way from this exercise.

Have you guessed?

The answer is that the child has not committed any crime. He is only five years-old and he is my son.

His only 'crime' is that he attends Southmead School, Whiston, and if Knowsley Education get their way in trying to close his school, the above punishment will apply.

Perhaps now people will understand why we will fight this decision all the way. We will not allow our children to become victims, nor will we allow them to be the answer to 'surplus places' at any other school.
