AS WELL as being a mum-of-two and full time accounts clerk, Carol Gordon also has another job -- as a Special Constable.
And she is promoting a recruitment campaign for Specials in the Pennine police division which includes all the Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale areas.
Carol, 49, works for Burnley Council and has been a Special for five years and says that if she can do it as a mother-of-two then anyone can.
She said: "I have always cared about the local community and often thought of joining the Specials.
"So when my children grew up a bit and I found I had some time on my hands I applied.
"I had a choice of sitting at home watching television or doing something which could really make a difference. I wanted to make a difference."
After an interview and assessment Carol received training in basic policing skills.
She said: "I have done all sorts of duties. I have done mobile patrol, football matches, community events and helped to preserve crime scenes. I have enjoyed every minute of it."
She added: "The best part of the job has to be helping local people. I love getting out and about and meeting new people and knowing that I have been able to help them. "I work a minimum of four hours a week to help regular officers make the community a safer place."
Open evenings are planned on Thursday, October 4 at Colne Cricket Club and Tuesday, October 16 at Haslingden cricket Club, all from 7-9pm.
Further information and an application form can be obtained from the Lancashire Police recruitment hotline on 01772 410313. at the Rostron Arms, Market Place, Edenfield; Wednesday, October 10.
