DIVISION leaders Plymouth made it 34 consecutive league victories with a performance that suggests they must be favourites for a second promotion.
Thanks to another excellent display of kicking from full back Chris Glynn, Hoppers stayed in contention until the final 15 minutes before the advantage of having a number of full time professionals in their side finally paid dividends for the Devon side.
Glynn's boot was much in evidence in the first half with four penalties including one from half way.
Barlow also kicked a couple for the visitors. A penetrative run from centre Bunny put flanker Thomas in under the posts giving Barlow a simple conversion and Albion a single point lead at the break.
A Barlow penalty early in the second half increased the visitors lead. A period of pressure gave prop Paver the chance to burrow over at the posts for an Albion try. Barlow converted.
A fifth Glynn penalty kept Hoppers in touch. Barlow was on target with a drop goal before the visitors late surge paid off.
Tries from winger Thompson and centre Bunny made Albion safe but Hoppers determination produced the final score.
An injury time try in the corner for Glynn was just reward with the full back making his personal tally 21 points with a fine conversion from the touch line.
On Saturday Hoppers travel to Bedford Athletic for a second round National Senior Cup tie knowing that a home tie against Birmingham Solihull awaits the victors.
RESULT: Preston Grasshoppers 22 Plymouth Albion 36
