THE annual "barn boogie" charity event organised by Nelson and Colne Round Table goes ahead this weekend despite the foot and mouth crisis.

But it has been renamed "basement boogie" after a switch of venue.

The show will take place in the basement of Spring Garden Mill, Green Road, Colne, tomorrow.

The foot and mouth epidemic put paid to any hope of the boogie going ahead at Whitemoor Farm, the venue for the last two dances.

Last year the event raised £12,000 and has been the backbone of the club's fund-raising for the past ten years.

At one point it looked like the area had escaped the virus but it in the end it was only right and proper to call it off," said chairman Jason Spain.

But Round Tablers don't give up easily and when past chairman Ian Wolfenden suggested using the mill basement belonging to his family business, the basement boogie was born.

The followed a challenge using the skill of various tradesmen to get the premises ready for Saturday's big event.

The club is on the lookout for new members. Anyone interested can contact Peter Boast on 01282 862855.
