A MAN was due to appear in court today following an attack which left a woman in intensive care.
David George Britcliffe, 52, of Booth Street, Accrington, was arrested after ambulance crews alerted police on Wednesday night.
He was quizzed by detectives at Accrington Police Station yesterday while officers carried out house to house inquiries in the area.
He was expected to appear before Blackburn magistrates charged with wounding.
The woman, 47, who has not been named, was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary with serious injuries. She was today said to be in a 'poorly' condition.
Det Insp Steve Ashley, of Accrington CID, said: "We have charged a 52-year-old man with a serious assault and he will be appearing in court this morning."
