WHEN I first read your piece about Iain Dobson having his trading licence withdrawn because of his reference to "ex-British National Party" jackboots I immediately penned a letter asking you to pass him my sympathy. Had I seen his sales notices I know I should have had a quiet chuckle and thanked him for lightening my day. I didn't send my letter at the time though, as I thought it might have been misinterpreted - as indeed was Mr Dobson's sense of humour! I really do understand the complaints. However it does seem to me that one of the most powerful weapons we have against fanaticism of all kinds is ridicule. When we lose the ability to laugh at those who seek to reduce the values of our society we stand in danger of taking them, and ourselves, too seriously.
Let's lighten up a little!
