IF something works then why not make another one? And that's just what the clever folks at Martin Witts Productions have done with Legends.

The new batch of Stars In Their Eyes type entertainers opened recently at Blackpool's Central Pier to work side by side with the season openers. And they're just as much fun as the first lot.

Leading the pack this time is Billy Lee as the irrepressible Tom Jones and it's amazing how this cheeky Cockney transforms into the Welsh hip-wiggler, even going so far as to kiss half of the female audience and wear the tightest pair of black pants ever seen while singing top hits like Delilah, It's Not Unusual and Kiss.

Maxine Barrie is spookily like Shirley Bassey as well as sounding exactly like her, and powerfully belts out Hey Big Spender and Something among her repertoire.

But her closing medley of New York tunes fell a little flat and left a few shifting uncomfortably in their seats.

Clayton Mark is an amazing Elvis in both spangly white jumpsuit and tight leathers and a highly entertaining show finishes in a big way with Kevin King's Freddie Mercury, who despite not sounding much like his idol, is so enthusiastic and energetic it's infectious and everyone is soon waving arms and singing along.

Musical director Richard Chance handles the sounds expertly and is backed by outstanding musicians Simon Faulkener, Paul Smith and Keith Peberdy.

But for my money the hardest working pair in Legends have to be dancers Wendy Hollands and Fiona Florczak who spiral, high kick and smile their way throughout the entire show with style and a never-ending supply of eye-catching costumes.

Legends runs nightly at Blackpool Central Pier showbar until October 28 with show one and two running alternate weeks. For further details and ticket prices call Blackpool (01253) 292029.
