ROSSENDALE and Darwen MP Janet Anderson has stepped into the row over an application to buy part of Trickets Memorial Ground in Waterfoot.
Mrs Anderson has written to Rossendale Council chief executive Steven Hartley to express her concern that the council should consider selling the land which has been leased to a resident on Thistlemount for use as a garden.
The application to buy the land off Burnley Road East will be considered by the corporate policy meeting on October 16.
The Labour group will be opposing the plan and several members of the public have written in expressing their concern at the proposal.
One objector, Jack Trickett, 93, of Edgeside Lane, Edgeside, even remembers donating part of his wages when he used to work at Trickett's footwear factory at Gaghills to have the memorial built to remember the workers who lost their lives in the First World War.
