ON Friday, September 7, a tall man over 6ft tall came to my door. He wore a navy pullover and black trousers. He carried a folder under his left arm and a big torch in his right hand.

On opening my door the man said, "electric", so I let him in.

My brother and sister-in-law were staying with me at the time, for which I thank God.

The man left after so called reading the meter. When he left I said to my brother that I didn't think the man had any identification.

So later on Tuesday, we telephoned the electric board and no reading had been registered. Their records show I didn't require a reading until October 6.

I shudder to think what might have happened to me if my brother hadn't been there. Anyway, I have learned a lesson. But when one has been so trusting it's a sad state of affairs to be so cautious.
