THE FA Cup conjures up magic memories for Accrington Stanley from by-gone years, and John Coleman wants to bring them back.

In 1992/3 season, Stanley beat Gateshead with a certain Paul Burns - still a Reds regular - setting up two goals for Paul Beck in the 3-2 win in the first round.

This secured them a tie against Crewe Alexandra, played at Ewood Park, where 10,801 - the highest attendance of the day -- turned out to watch Stanley unfortunately get beat 6-1.

The season after then boss Ken Wright led Stanley again into the first round where they met Scunthorpe.

The venue this time was Turf Moor and Jim Connor scored an 89th minute equaliser for the Reds before the Irons won through 3-2 with a sickening last kick of the game.

They were disappointing losses but just getting there was magic and although it is only the second qualifying round, with Stanley making the trip to North Yorkshire side Pickering Town, the stakes are still high.

"In my two years I have been here we have never had a good FA Cup run," said Coleman, whose side will net £7,500 from the FA if Stanley win tomorrow.

"It would be great to do it this season especially now the money is involved. Having £7,500 for winning tomorrow will do nicely.

"In the past the FA Cup was always for a bit of glory but now it is to get some money.

"But it is also for the town. It would be great to get an FA Cup run for the people of Accrington."

But although Stanley are the hot-favourites for the win, Coleman knows from Wednesday night's experience that there is no underestimating any team.

The Reds lost in the Group stages of the UniBond League Cup to First Division side Chorley.

"If that taught us anything it is not to underestimate out opponents and we won't be doing that with Pickering," he said.

"They are unbeaten and even though they are a couple of leagues below us we need to be sharp and ready.

"We have underachieved this season. We have conceded far too many goals, everyone can see that.

"We have let ourselves down. We had enough chances to win against Chorley, and that's not taking anything away from them as they played well but we are under achieving."

A win is vital tomorrow - and so is the money.

"The money will make a lot of difference to managers. That is another reason not to underestimate Pickering. They will be fired up as the money would be a big boost to them - and to us."

Talking of money, the continued speculation regarding former Stanley striker Brett Ormerod has certainly set the pulses racing at the Crown Ground.

The Reds have a 20 per cent sell on clause for any sale of the Blackpool frontman and with bids of at least £1m being touted, Stanley could be rubbing there hands.

"I think everyone at Stanley will be rubbing their hands if and when it happens.

"I think any money we do get from his sale will go to the ground, to bring it fully up to Conference standard and build a solid base. That's how I think any windfall at this level should be spent."

Stanley have striker Mark Ceraolo still out as is defender Robbie Williams but skipper Jay Flannery, who took a bang on the neck against Whitby and missed the Chorley game, should be back.
