Haydock 30 Pilkingtons 6: HAYDOCK had this match won by half time. Against a strong wind Haydock played some brilliant rugby to run up a 20-0 half time lead.
It took Haydock only eight minutes to get their first try after some good work by P Ireland who passed to Pearson C who then supplied a nice ball to centre Speed who went over from 10 yards.
Ireland N, Bloor, Boland and Marsh made good ground for Haydock and Pilks never looked live scoring.
With solid displays from Carroll, Cahalin and Ireland N, Haydock were soon back on the attack when winger Wade made a great run beating a number of would be tacklers, before passing to Boland who sent a lovely pass to P Ireland who scored near the posts.
Pilks tried to get into the game but the Haydock defence was too good. Haydock scored the try of the match from inside their own half with the ball going through numerous pairs of hands.
Ireland, brother Neil, Bloor and Speed all handled before N Ireland scored a great try. P Ireland's conversion made it 16-0 after 33 minutes.
And just before half time, good work by Tickle sent the supporting Speed for his second try to make it 20-0 at half time.
In the second half, Pilks came into the game more and scored their first try after 55 minutes through Rees which was goaled by Fletcher to make it 20-6.
Haydock were dropping a lot more ball and were making it harder for themselves. Substitute S Marsh made a good impact and half backs Boland and Appleton were always in control.
It took 68 minutes for Haydock to get their next try with good work by Shaw who moved the ball to Pearson C who put in winger Tickle for a good try to make it 24-6, and with minutes to go, quick play from acting half back saw I Marsh go in for a good try converted by P Ireland. Outstanding for Haydock were Boland, Marsh I, Ireland N, Ireland P and Shaw.
