STEVE Killarney (Letters, Sept 18) has completely missed the point of the campaign regarding the sale of Manchester United souvenirs in the Bury FC club shop.

This is not an anti-United campaign and we have no objection to the club shop selling their merchandise to United fans on the evenings when their reserves play at Gigg Lane.

Our campaign is aimed at the preservation of Bury FC's identity because with no owner, no fans and no money our identity is just about all we have left.

What is the future for Bury FC when young fans are dragged kicking and screaming to Gigg Lane by family and friends for the first time only to appear to be given the legitimate option of a different team to support? How do you expect them to stay loyal to Bury?

Does this happen any where else and do United stock goods for Manchester City, Leeds, Liverpool or Arsenal? Do they give such merchandise the most prominent displays in their club shops? The answer is "no". Other clubs are too proud of their own identities to allow this to happen.

BESSES SHAKER.
