ELBOW: Newborn (V2) -- If ever there was just cause to re-release a classic track, this is it. Guy Garvey's mix of enchanting vocals and heart-=wrenching lines creates any almost mystic cocktail. First released last year on tiny Manchester Uglyman Records, it's the standout track from the Bury boys' debut album Asleep In The Back.(10/10) CL
STEREOPHONICS: Step On My Old Size Nines (V2) -- This acoustic track has a country feel and is the most uninspiring track yet from Kelly Jones. Whatever happened to all the energy, passion and inspired lyrics of their first album? (3/10) CL
Albums
VARIOUS: I Love '90s (Virgin) -- At last, a compilation which is exactly what it is -- a chronicle of the 1990s, showing the highs and lows and, more importantly, the wide mix that made the final decade of the millennium memorable. Everything from Lou Bega to Babylon Zoo and Eternal to Snap. (7/10) DH
VARIOUS: Trance Anthems (Virgin) -- The fully commercial dance is dropped here in favour of the dark side of trance. It is refreshing, breaking several new tracks but sustaining credibility by including tunes like Suburban Train by DJ Tiesta (8/10) DH
