Yeovil 2 Leigh RMI 1 y Martyn Hindley

LEIGH RMI's run of three games without defeat was ended in controversial fashion as Yeovil Town took all the points from Huish Park.

Leigh seized an early initiative to quieten the 2,800 crowd. Craig Skinner sprayed the ball out wide to Ian Monk on the right-hand side and his cross was met by the unmarked head of Marcus Hallows, who registered his third goal in RMI colours.

Only eight minutes had been played but the Railwaymen's slick interplay in midfield was starting to frustrate the hosts who could have drawn level midway through the half.

Carl Alford dragged the ball across the face of goal forcing Neil Durkin to clear the danger posed by the onrushing Tom White.

Moments later, Leigh thought they could double their lead when Skinner's defence-splitting ball found Hallows marginally offside and there was soon to be action at the other end when Terry Skiverton headed wide from Adam Lockwood's free-kick.

The turning point came in the 64th minute when sub Scott Ramsay muscled through the defence only to be felled by Farrell's trailing leg and the veteran defender paid the price when he was shown a second yellow card before being dismissed. Darren Way thumped his spot-kick straight down the centre to put the hosts back on terms.

The goal was the first conceded against Mark Westhead in 250 minutes of football for the Railwaymen, and he was forced into more good work soon after to deny Way's sizzling low drive.

Ten man Leigh then found themselves under immense pressure and succumbed with five minutes to play when Nick Crittenden's side-footed cross from the right-wing wondered agonisingly across the penalty area to the far post for Ramsey to convert.

Leigh could take heart from the return of Ian Swan after fracturing his ankle in the second game of the season at Doncaster. Ged Kielty - another name recently deleted from the injured list - was also a late substitute. Both will hope to figure in Steve Waywell's plans for tomorrow's difficult trip to Morecambe, where the high-flying shrimps are unbeaten at Christie Park so far.
