LANCASHIRE Constabulary's Pennine Road Safety Unit are appealing for witness after an accident which left a man in a critical condition in Preston Royal Infirmary.
Waseem Sarwar, of Goodmanpark, Slough, Berkshire was a rear seat passenger in a grey Toyota Corolla involved in a crash on Carr Road, Nelson in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Since hearing the news, Mr Sarwar's family have made the trip north to be at his bedside.
Police believe that the driver, Kamran Ali, 19, of Carr Road, Nelson, lost control of the vehicle which careered to the opposite side of the road, spun round and crashed into nearby trees.
Mr Sarwar was rushed to Burnley General Hospital by paramedics who attended the scene.
He was later transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of Preston Royal Infirmary because of the severity of his injuries.
His condition was described by the hospital today as "critical".
