COUNCILLORS on a trip to a road accident blackspot in Oswaldtwistle witnessed two crashes while they were at the scene.
Hyndburn Area Council representatives plus members of the public were visiting the busy stretch of road in the area's first street audit.
Two minor accidents happened on Union Road when one car had to brake suddenly to avoid a pedestrian, and two other cars collided on the roundabout.
The 15 members of the public and Oswaldtwistle area council committee members and officers split into two groups, walking on either side of the road from the Black Dog pub to the town hall on Blackburn Road.
The group also noticed broken pavements, overflowing drains and large puddles which needed attention.
Residents, who have described the road as a rat run, are waiting for news of traffic-calming measures from Lancashire County Council at the next area council meeting on December 4.
Three months ago, the area council rejected Lancashire County Council plans in the Harvey Street to Moscow Mill Street area to construct a mini roundabout.
They sent Lancashire back to the drawing board and requested a new proposal produced by consultation with local people.
Hyndburn Council leader Peter Britcliffe said: "When we got to the town hall, we talked about the problems heavy goods vehicles caused on the road and how to discourage them without hurting local businesses.
"A report will be written and submitted to the area council meeting in December.
"It is pretty ironic that we witnessed two traffic incidents during the audit."
