POLICE were today waiting to speak to a man found unconscious in a street in the early hours of the morning.
The 22-year-old from Blackburn was taken to Royal Preston Hospital at 3.30am on Saturday with serious head injuries.
A member of the public dialled 999 and the injured man was picked up outside the Park Inn pub, Montague Street, Blackburn. His condition is described as stable.
A spokesman for Blackburn ambulance service said: "We received a call that a man was vomiting and had collapsed.
"When the paramedics arrived they found him unconscious. He was also bleeding badly."
It is not yet known if the man had been attacked, police say.
It is understood that when he regained consciousness yesterday he told hospital staff he could remember what happened to him.
Sgt Peter Crane of Blackburn police said: "At the moment we can't do a great deal until we talk to this man about what happened.
"But if any members of the public noticed anything suspicious on Montague Street at that time, we would like to hear from them."
Anyone who can help the police should ring 01254 51212.
