A FANTASTIC solo effort from Danny Coid helped Blackpool to victory to make it six points in a week for the Tangerines.
It was also the Seasiders first home league win of the season and in addition the game saw John Murphy score his first goal of the season.
What was most pleasing for Steve McMahon is his team didnt actually play that well and that the result flattered the performance.
And as any Blackpool supporter will tell you, its been the complete opposite this season where Pool play well only for denied by late goals.
But today Pool achieved the most important goal - the three points.
The Blackpool line-up didnt change from Tuesdays impressive win away at Northampton. Richie Wellens was still out with a calf injury and Steve McMahon kept faith with John Murphy despite Graham Fenton scoring again from the subs bench on Tuesday.
Steve McMahon's decision to continue with John Murphy was proved a correct one when the big striker opened the scoring on 8 minutes.
Brett Ormerod picked up the pieces on the edge of the box to lay off to Paul Simpson on the left hand side.
From there, Simpson crossed first time and Murphy rose above the Wigan defence to emphatically head home for that long awaited first goal.
Blackpool didnt really look dangerous for the remainder of the half with Paul Simpson coming closest with a 32nd minute free kick.
But with Wigan threatening little themselves the score remained at 1-0 when the sides went in for half time.
The second half didnt explode into life until the 70th minute when some pressure from Wigan resulted in Pool keeper James Pullen fouling Simon Howarth in the box.
Ex-Preston striker Lee Ashcroft levelled the scores from the penalty spot to the delight of the 1000 strong travelling Wigan support.
But when it looked as if the game was heading for a draw, Pool scored two in as many minutes, starting with that goal from Danny Coid.
Picking up the ball in his own half, Coid sprinted forward and went on and on until unleashing an unstoppable strike into the top corner.
A world class solo effort from Coid that will surely impress any scouts present at the game.
Pool made it 3-1 a minutes later through Neil Mackenzie, his first in Tangerine colours.
Mackenzie tapped in on the rebound after John Murphy had hit the bar.
That killed off Wigan and wrapped up the points for Steve McMahon and his delight was obvious after the game.
Pool continue to climb the table, and with a couple of more wins like this one and who knows what Pool can achieve.
RESULT: Blackpool 3-1 Wigan
Murphy (8), Coid (85), Mackenzie (88)
Ashcroft (pen 70)
