OH Eric Leaver, why direct your anger at pensioners who receive a £200 winter fuel payment per household (LET, September 26)?

Why not against benefit cheats who blatantly defraud the system? Why not against the judges who show them leniency, thereby encouraging more cheating?

Instead, you choose to rail against men (not very PC dear!) in the 60-65 age group who are still working.

A lot of pensioners are poor, in spite of having a company pension. Pensions for the elderly in this country are less than single people can draw from the "pot."

Another point you ignore when slating pensioners is that if we go into hospital for longer than 28 days, we lose a large portion of our pension.

You, on the other hand, not only get full pay for a time if you are sick, but you are not expected to contribute.

When the cost of living rises you get a substantial rise -- we get 75p!

A friend of mine, recently widowed, has had her pension increased to make up for the loss of her husband's income. Don't scream about yet more waste of public money! She has gained £1.85 per week.

Time to eat 'umble pie, Eric. Lots of it.
