EURO MP Gary Titley will today (Tuesday Oct 2) call for a crackdown on the illegal arms trade in the war against terrorism.
That's the message he will deliver to the European Parliament when he presents his report on the workings of the EU code of conduct on arms exports.
"We must crack down very hard on the illicit trade in weaponry, and our first target should be the arms brokers," says Mr Titley, who is Labour's European spokesman on foreign affairs and defence.
"We must train our fire on these agents of death, who are able to peddle their evil trade in many countries without any controls whatsoever.
"And we must clamp down on dealing in what are euphemistically called small arms, but include things like shoulder-launched anti-aircraft rockets.
"The very presence of these weapons destabilises countries and fuels conflict.
"The war on terrorism will not be won until we control the arms that are the tools of its deadly trade."
