TWO women were injured when four armed men attacked a post office.
The postmistress was hit on the head by a falling door while a female colleague was cut by flying glass.
The masked raiders, armed with sledgehammers and a metal bar, fled Sunnybank post office in Sunny Bank Road on Thursday (Sept 27) with a small amount of cash.
Detective Inspector Jane Antrobus, of Whitefield CID, said: "The men went into the post office and threw a concrete block, smashing the security screen."
The postmistress was struck by a door separating the customer area from the back of the premises when it was smashed open. After grabbing the cash, the men ran away and one of them smashed the windscreen of a nearby car with a metal bar as a warning to the woman driver. She was unhurt.
They drove off in a Rover Vitesse which was recovered in nearby Heathfield Road, Whitefield.
An ambulance crew treated the staff members, but they did not require hospital treatment.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to ring Whitefield CID on 856 8240.
