A DRUNKEN carpenter who disgraced himself in a rumpus at his golf club would not be allowed back and had been rejected by members.
Burnley Magistrates heard how Keith Robinson, 31, later found to have drugs on him, had been shouting that he was working class and making abusive remarks about Marsden Golf Club's captain.
Robinson, said to have fallen out with the captain in the past, was ashamed and embarrassed by his behaviour and intended to give alcohol, as well as the club, a miss in future.
The defendant, of Moorhead Street, Colne, admitted possessing cannabis and being drunk and disorderly. He was conditionally discharged for 12 months, with £55 costs.
Tom Snape, prosecuting, said police were called to the golf club, where Robinson had been shouting at people in the bar.
He twice referred to the captain using offensive words, continued shouting and swearing and was arrested. He was later found to have cannabis on him.
Dylan Bradshaw, defending, said Robinson was as reasonable a man as he had come across in 10 years as duty solicitor.
As a result of something which had recently happened in his personal life, he had started to drink quite heavily. He took solace in alcohol and his work had suffered .
The defendant had gone to the golf club, started to drink and had a very vague recollection of events.
It would appear he had had a dispute with the captain in the past and was disappointed by the way he had been treated by certain members of the club.
In the past, he had questioned the behaviour of the captain not only to him, but others but chose to voice those objections in drink and in an inappropriate manner.
Mr Bradshaw said the defendant had now been ostracised by club members he had considered friends.
Robinson knew he would not be allowed back as a member at Marsden but wanted to apologise.
