A SECONDARY school has enrolled the services of a 14-year-old newshound who will pounding the corridors on the hunt for stories.
Lucy Brinklow, 14, of Haywood Road, Rishton was delighted when her teachers asked her to take on the role of news correspondent for Norden High School, Stourton Street, Rishton.
She will be interviewing her head teacher Denise Parkinson, deputy head teachers, heads of department and teachers every week and pass on the her newly discovered news stories to her teacher-cum-news editor Kay Mercer.
Mrs Mercer will use the information to write a newsletter which will be sent on to newspapers, including the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
Lucy said: "I was recommended by my teachers because I helped pick out the children's books of the year at a Lancashire County Council event earlier this year.
"My friend, Stacey Palmer, 14, from Clayton-le-Moors will also be helping me so I don't suppose it will be too difficult to find news stories."
She added: "But I don't think I will be a journalist in the future and it's early days to say if I'll be a writer."
Science teacher Kay Mercer, who is also Norden's business links co-ordinator said:" I'm in charge of putting information into the media and this is a pretty good way of going about it.
"And this my my first dealing with newspapers so everything is really new."
She added: " I think Lucy will be a good journalist if she wants to go down that road, though at the moment she is more interested in science. She is a very hard working girl."
