IAN Cox came through his first full 90 minutes since recovering from injury when he played for Clarets reserves in an impressive 2-1 win at West Brom last night.

Delighted boss Ronnie Jepson said: "He did very well and played the full 90 minutes which he needed."

Cox had returned to the first team on Saturday, also at West Brom, but was taken off in the second half as he showed signs of tiring.

But the fact that he was able to play a full match within 48 hours of coming back to action will have also made Stan Ternent a happy man.

Cox now has another 11 days of hard training ahead as he prepares to get back to full match sharpness for the Clarets next league match, a trip to Nottingham Forest a week on Saturday.

Another man on the oroad to recovery, winger Bradley Maylett, also had a full game and Jepson said: "He stuck at it and played 90 minutes and it was important for him to get a full game under his belt."

The overall performance of the side pleased Jepson as they inflicted a first Avon Insurance League defeat of the season on the home side.

"It was an excellent win in what was an excellent game of football," he said. "We competed well throughout the match and were quite strong, it was a very good battling performance. We played some good stuff and deserved the win."

Young striker Anthony Shandran headed the opener and Lennie Johnrose, who impressed all night, got the winner from the spot afer John Mullin was upended in the area.

"The penalty came after a great move that involved the whole team," enthused Jepson who has made an unbeaten start in his new role as reserve team manager.

Their next match is a week tomorrow when Oldham Athletic visit Turf Moor.
