ORGANISERS of a social night for residents from Weir village were delighted when nearly 150 people came along to the event.
Weir Lodges and Wildlife Trust, which was set up to contest a planning application in the village and preserve the lodges which were under threat, organised the first social event at Bacup Leisure Hall and 100 adults turned up along with nearly 50 children.
Entertainment was provided by Sneezewort an hilarious duo who combined singing, with magic and impressions!
Chairman John Glendinning said: "For the first event of a little village we were delighted with the turnout.
"People kept on asking when we were going to do it again! I think we may look to hold a similar event in February and perhaps an event on the park in the village in the summer.
"Although we were set up to fight a planning application we are now working as a residents group to get the community talking and working together."
The trust is holding a bulb and willow tree planting day on Saturday from 10am to 12 noon at the lodges.
John said the village already had its own informal litter-picking crews and he was hoping by involving children in the trust's activities the children would also get a sense of ownership and take a pride in maintaining their village.
