WHAT is going on at Turf Moor?

Stan Ternent, the 1-0 specialist of many a year, is orchestrating a team that has scored 25 league and cup goals and conceded 15 in a mere 9 matches.

A remarkable fact is that when Andy Payton slotted in the penalty against Rotherham, he was the eleventh different scorer in six league games and yet, at that time, no individual had scored more than two!

So what has Stan changed, considering that there are very few new faces?

Firstly, the new face Alan Moore is operating on the left in a more forward position than we are used to seeing. Although he appears to be a quiet type, he does what he does well and effectively.

Secondly, Glen Little, Ian Moore and Gareth Taylor have all developed a more penetrative element to their game.

And thirdly, the midfield players are moving forward more often, with Paul Cook working his socks off even more than last year. In fact, the whole team seems to be impersonating Kevin Keegan's Newcastle of a few years ago and who could ever have imagined talking about Stan and Kevin in the same breath!

Yes, we are letting in many goals and this is a drawback of playing further forward. We are all aware of our lack of pace at the back at the moment so I hope that Ian Cox, once fit again, will come straight back in, along with the athletic, energetic Paul Weller.

I was sitting on the Long Side (sorry, James Hargreaves Stand!) against Walsall when some of my neighbours booed at the substitution of Ian Moore. Please, Stan, do not get upset with these people - they are not all capable of reading a game as well as you!

On behalf of this small group, I shouted "Sorry, Stan" in a rare quiet moment late in the game and I hope he heard me!

If not, I'll say "Sorry, Stan!" now. I am sure he appreciated the fans' positive reaction at Birmingham when he again took Moore off.

All we need now is to get more bums on seats inside the ground. Looking at the attendance figures, there are obviously people who watched the team last season who have not returned this season. There have been 26 goals in five league and cup games at Turf Moor. You cannot expect more than that - even though 11 have been in our net!

Finally, having said "Sorry!", let us say a big "Thank you" to Stan.
