BURNLEY Borough Council staff have revealed they are "delighted" with the first six months of a kerbside paper recycling collection scheme.
Over 650 tonnes of newspapers and magazines have been recycled and the amount of rubbish going to landfill sited has been reduced.
The fortnightly collection was launched in April to allow Burnley residents to take part in recycling from the comfort of their homes.
The initiative is run in conjunction with Swinnerton Bros waste disposal services and for every tonne recycled, the Bury firm donate £1 to environmental charity projects.
Executive member for Public Protection and Community Safety, Coun Charlie Bullas said: "We are delighted with the success of this scheme and would like to say a big thankyou to the residents who take part in it.
"I would like to encourage people who don't recycle their paper at the moment to give the scheme a try.
"It is very straight forward and can make a real difference to our environment."
