MOTORISTS are being urged to curb their speed on a busy Clitheroe road.
Clitheroe police have received a number of calls from residents worried about drivers using excessive speed on Pendle Road, one of the main routes out of the town.
Insp Bob Ford, of Clitheroe police, said: "We have had quite a few complaints from local residents about speeding motorists and we will be bringing in speed enforcement measures to curb the problem.
"We are asking people who know the area to comply with the speed restrictions on Pendle Road to avoid the risk of causing serious or fatal accidents."
Speeding on Pendle Road has been a cause for concern for some time, particularly during school crossing times.
In December 2000, lollipop lady Jackie Devine, of Littlemoor Road, Clitheroe, successfully campaigned to have a new sign and flashing lights installed to help direct over 100 youngsters across the road each day.
Lancashire County Council installed the school patrol warnings thanks to intervention from Clitheroe councillors Stephen Sutcliffe and Paul Adnitt.
