A COTTAGE thought to date from the 19th century is to be brought back into residential use after a successful planning appeal.
Rose Cottage, Rise Lane, Todmorden, is one of a pair of historic cottages in the centre of the town.
Calderdale Council refused planning permission on the grounds that it should remain as a buffer between the other cottage and industrial building next door to protect the occupants from noise problems.
That decision has now been overturned on appeal.
The planning inspector said it was difficult to know which had been built first the cottages or industrial building. The cottage in question appeared to have recently been used for storage.
At the time of the site visit the ground floor was being used as a kitchen for the cottage next door. Wall insulation had already been carried out and would be continued into the roof space. Secondary glazing would also reduce noise.
The risk of complaint from noise from industrial activities would be small enough to justify making an exception to the planning policy and he, therefore, granted the appeal.
