A CARNFORTH man who claims he has been the victim of a miscarriage of justice has vowed to continue the fight to clear his name after his release.
Jon Harkin, who has served half of a seven year sentence, is due to appear before a parole board and could be free within weeks.
The former swimming pool attendant was convicted of rape and false imprisonment in 1998 but received hundreds of messages of support from people in the community where he worked. He has always maintained his innocence and claims that he can prove he is not guilty and will do so on his release.
Friend and supporter, Jean Lonsdale, said: "Jon's nightmare could soon be over but even when he's a free man he will continue the fight to clear his name. He's had phenomenal support from everyone who knows him and many people where he used to work still ask after him. Many in the community are ready to back him in his campaign, we have 400 names on a petition and dozens of messages and letters of support."
She added: "Individuals have also come forward with important information which could help Jon's case. We're all looking forward to his release but the fight for justice goes on."
