A COMPANY in Nelson which put up advertising signs on the walls of its premises without permission has submitted an application to the council to keep the non-illuminated wall signs.
But councillors could follow advice from the council's planners, who recommended the refusal of the application and that legal action should be taken to remove the signs from the building.
Northern Wall and Floor Ltd., formerly Nelson Windows, in Manchester Road, are seeking advertising consent for signs at ground and first-floor window levels on the north and west sides and a first-floor wall sign on the east side.
The building is currently being used for the sale of ceramic tiles and bathrooms.
Planning officer Daniel Hartley said in his report to the committee: "The signs as a whole do not harmonise with the scale and architecture of the building and have an adverse affect on visual amenity in this prominent location."
He also said the signs appeared excessive and cluttered and went against the Pendle Local Plan.
