BURNLEY emergency services were called when a man who police said appeared to be drunk climbed up a lamp post in St Matthew Street and shouted abuse at passers-by.
The man in his early twenties refused to come down.
A fire engine and police van were parked beneath the lamp post in case he slipped.
After half an hour he jumped on to the fire appliance and was arrested.
He was taken to Burnley police station and detained overnight.
