BURY'S Sam Collins has revealed that he is actively looking for another club - but would still love to stay at Gigg Lane.
The big defender was shocked to be told that he was being put on the transfer list, along with midfielders Darren Bullock and Matt Murphy.
However, the move is more an attempt to raise money rather than a reflection of Collins' ability on the pitch.
And Bury boss Andy Preece has told the 24-year-old that if a takeover at Gigg Lane does go through, then the situation could well alter.
"The gaffer pulled me in the other day and told me the club won't be able to afford my wages next season unless someone comes in and buys the club," revealed Collins, who missed Tuesday's Wycombe match with a foot injury.
"He said that if I could sort something out in the meantime then to do it.
"I have more or less been given permission to look around and see what I can sort out for myself but if something happens with the takeover then it could totally change.
"I would like to stay but I understand why the club have done it. To be honest it gives me a head-start. Instead of me being one of 500 players released at the end of the season it gives me a clear run now to try and find a new club so we'll see what happens.
"My agent knows about the situation so we will see what happens and play it by ear.
"I've just got to do as well as I can on the pitch and do enough to earn a new contract be it here or somewhere else."
Midfielder Murphy - who only signed for Bury two months ago - has been told the same and has already had a trial with Third Division Rushden & Diamonds.
Darren Bullock is also looking and youngsters George Clegg and Steve Halford have been informed that their contracts will not be renewed.
