COUNCILLORS delayed a decision to approve spending £3,000 towards the creation of a £50,000 play area for Cutler Crescent in Stacksteads, but did agree in principal.
A scheme has been put together by officers from Rossendale Groundwork who described it as "a disadvantaged council housing estate".
The report says that although the area is in a state of disrepair, it is well used, but the play equipment, removed many years ago, has never been replaced.
Plans are for a scheme costing nearly £50,000 to provide a natural barrier between housing and the area, supply new play equipment, improved safety and facilities for adults to enjoy.
Groundwork has already secured £10,000 from Barclays SiteSavers, £15,000 from Bacup and Stacksteads Single Regeneration Budget and has applied for more than £21,000 from Lancashire Environmental Fund. Rossendale Council was asked for £3,000.
At the leisure and economic development committee, councillors approved the idea in principal but have asked Groundwork to produce a more detailed breakdown in the figures and report back.
