AMAZING Amy Hulmes celebrates her 114th birthday today (Fri Oct 5).
Amy and her family will be able to reflect on a momentous year which saw the former weaver declared Europe's oldest person.
But today's celebrations will be a quiet affair.
Although staff and residents at Bury's Chestnut Court residential home will provide her with birthday greetings, there will no fanfare or fuss.
Mrs Barbara Murray, one of Amy's two daughters, said: "Mum's in bed most of the time and very frail.
"I'll be going down to see her, but it will be a quiet day for her. She could be asleep and there will be no party."
In March, thanks to Mrs Murray's intervention, Amy was finally recognised as the UK's oldest living person by Guinness Book of World Records researchers.
Later, Guinness declared her Europe's oldest following the death of the previous record holder.
Researchers list Amy as the world's third oldest living person. The record holder is American Maud Ferris-Luse, born nine months before Amy. And Kamato Hongo of Japan, born on September 16, 1887, is the world's second oldest.
